Winds of Disillusion

Winds of Disillusion

Sometimes, black metal music can be sonically grating to the ears of the uninitiated.

For example, I’ve had girlfriends in the past who I’d tried to turn on to the darker stuff, but they just couldn’t get passed the extreme fucking nature of the music.

And I dumped them.

For Italian dark metallers Apostolum, whose music contains bleak black metal elements, the aural output isn’t overwhelming. In fact, it retains more of a hard rock feel, making Apostolum a unique-sounding band.

Today, we bring you an exclusive cut off the band’s sophomore release, the impending Winds of Disillusion — which is highly recommended for fans of My Dying Bride, Paradise Lost and Anathema.

Apostolum’s sound incorporates keys, acoustic grand piano, and even brass. To me, the band sounds like what I imagine Xasthur would sound like if Steven Wilson of Porcupine Tree were an integral member of the group.

Let me know if you can hear what I mean in the following tune, and of course, let me know what you think of the band. I’d be interested to know.

By the way, Winds of Disillusion will be released January 21 on Moribund Records.
